A "Best Rates" medical plan will offer the lowest premiums and have a variety of plan choices, but you will need to qualify. In order to qualify, you will be asked about your medical history, and this will determine if the company accepts or declines your application. You and other family members who apply for this coverage are expected to be in good health in order to qualify. In Illinois, "Best Rates" plans offered include Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, and United Healthcare. Underwriting on these plans can take a few weeks, so do not cancel your current coverage until you are accepted by the carrier and are satisfied with the coverage and rates. If you have had a history of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or other major illness, you most likely would not qualify for these plans. Your height and weight will also be considered in the underwriting process.
